As the projectors warm up in U.S. theaters today, 1300 of them are being prepped to pass the latest animated release from Japanese animation powerhouse Studio Ghibli through their lenses. While that's fewer than half the number of screens that will host each of this week's other two wide releases (Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance and This Means War), it's a significant number: Disney, the company responsible for distributing Ghibli releases in the United States, has never opened one of the Studio Ghibli's films on nearly as many screens. While past titles like Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke have been...

I was browsing over at Ain't It Cool News this morning and ran across this. Besides doing movie reviews and news, AICN also feature comics and anime. One of their anime resources, "Joe is Japanese", posted a comic called "Koga's Email". What it's about is an actual email sent from one of the Japanese animators who works for Joe is Japanese after the earthquake to let his American comapdres know he was okay. His US friends thought the email needed to be shared, so what the Americans did was illustrate the email in anime fashion. After having read the comic...

SNIPPET: "Al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) put out a new audio production through their media outlet, Al-Malahim Media, by way of Al-Fajr, featuring former GTMO detainee, Shaikh Ibrahim al-Rubaysh, who is now a religious authority for AQAP. Im drawing your attention to this, not because his statement entitled, How Could You Abandon Jihad? was that compelling because it wasnt (although it was pretty alarmist) but because of the banner graphic they used featuring a personal audio player. Ive seen this before but for some reason I was inspired to comment this time. The notion that kids anywhere...

What could be so downright unnerving? Did I say I drank human blood? Did I say I was attracted to little children and poultry? Did I say I wanted to desecrate the local house of worship, non-denominational of course, by throwing feces at it and blaming those inside for all... |

Many argue that communism will never be possible because of "human nature". The essence of this false argument is the belief that a communist society would consist of an all-powerful central government that would tell everybody what to do--and would therefore undermine the creative initiative of individuals and the search for happiness. This argument is based on two false assumptions: (1) It assumes that a communist society will look like the former Soviet Union, or the current China, North Korea, etc (ie: corrupt police states with a feudal-style ruling class) (2) It assumes that people will only work in...
