Apple's Siri Says Nokia Windows Phone is Best Cell Phone Ever
Monday 28th of May 2012 09:41:52 AM

| This is really rather amusing. Until just recently if you asked Siri, the voice assistant on the latest of Apples iPhones, which was the best cell phone ever the reply would be that it was the Nokia Lumia. Which is, as all know, a Windows based phone. The proof is here with a screen shot. The reason why it gave this unexpected answer (well, unexpected to me, it might actually be that the Lumia is the best cell phone ever) is that Siri interrogates the Wolfram Alpha database to answer such questions. And if there are four reviews (as there... |

| He may have co-founded the company that became Microsoft's largest competitor, but former Apple boss Steve Wozniak has glittering things to say about his former rival's mobile OS. Mr Wozniak, who co-founded Apple with the late Steve Jobs in 1976, has given a shocking endorsement of Windows' 7.5 Mango interface. The 61-year-old, who no longer works full-time for Apple, says of the four phones he travels with (including two iPhones), the Nokia Lumia makes him feel as though he is 'with a friend, not a tool'. | A surge in Galaxy smartphone sales fuelled earnings at Samsung Electronics to a record high in the first quarter, usually a tough season for the global consumer electronics industry, outshining handset rivals such as Nokia. Samsung sold more smartphones in the first three months of the year than Apple and raked in more than 70% of its operating profit from mobile businesses. Shares in Samsung shot up nearly 3%. Net profit nearly doubled from a year earlier to a record 5.05 trillion won (£2.75bn) for the quarter to 31 March. Operating profit also hit a record high, at 5.85 trillion... |
Carriers Desperately Seeking Windows Phone

| AT&T and Verizon Wireless want Windows Phone smartphones to succeed in the U.S., partly to provide leverage against Apple's demands for subsidies and other concessions required for selling the popular iPhone. AT&T recently began selling the Nokia Lumia 900 with the Windows Phone 7 operating system for a competitive $99.99 price. Meanwhile, Verizon Chief Financial Officer Fran Shammo recently told Reuters that Verizon is "really looking at the Windows Phone 8.0 platform because that's a differentiator." Both carriers need a strong competitor -- like Windows Phone -- to go up against the iPhone and Android phones, analysts said. The wireless... |

| This incredible footage was recorded as firefighters in China used an iPhone camera to seek out a two-year-old boy who had fallen down a well. The child plunged into the 40ft shaft while playing with friends outside a small village near Mengzi City, in Yunnan Province. Villagers raised the alarm after they heard him crying, tossing down a rope to which he clung for about an hour as they waited for the emergency services to arrive. When the fire service arrived they struggled to pull the trapped toddler out of the narrow hole. Emergency workers fed in a hose attached... |

| The explosion ripped through Building A5 on a Friday evening last May, an eruption of fire and noise that twisted metal pipes as if they were discarded straws. When workers in the cafeteria ran outside, they saw black smoke pouring from shattered windows. It came from the area where employees polished thousands of iPad cases a day. Jobs of Apple spoke, President Obama interrupted with an inquiry of his own: what would it take to make iPhones in the United States? Mr. Jobss reply was unambiguous. Those jobs arent coming back, he said, according to another dinner guest. |

| We love our iPhones and iPads. We love the prices of our iPhones and iPads. We love the super-high profit margins of Apple, Inc., the maker of our iPhones and iPads. And that's why it's disconcerting to remember that the low prices of our iPhones and iPads--and the super-high profit margins of Apple--are only possible because our iPhones and iPads are made with labor practices that would be illegal in the United States. And it's also disconcerting to realize that the folks who make our iPhones and iPads not only don't have iPhones and iPads (because they can't afford them),... |

The company stopped sales of the iPhone 4S in its shops in China on Friday and the Apple store in the Sanlitun district in central Beijing stayed closed after a crowd waiting to buy the model pelted the shop with eggs and started fighting with security guards. |

Conductor Alan Gilbert halted the performance of Mahlers Ninth Symphony when the offending iPhone ringtone sounded -- and persisted -- a media contact at the symphony confirmed. Just minutes from the end of the hour and a half-long piece, Gilbert turned to the phone's owner, seated close to the front of Lincoln Centers Avery Fisher Hall in New York City, according to an eyewitness account published by "Superconductor" blogger Paul Pelkonen. Why do Apple, Volvo and IKEA never fail?

| In one word; marketing skills. No one actually needs French perfumes. Fancy a rum and cola? - Why bother about coke? This Christmas, I and my brother, a programmer (silly job, good pay), discussed the issue of how to define a 'smart phone'. I'm a simple cook, but my Sony Ericsson Vivaz can do everything his iPhone could do, however, at the end of the row, we both agreed Apple and their products are among the best marketed brands on Earth. IKEA is another example of companies that are more than companies. Everyone has experienced sad misfortunes with IKEA furniture.... |

The Apple iPhone: Is Siri Pro Life? Apparently Yes

| Apple iPhone 4S' Siri can find you hookers in your neighborhood. Siri can find you Viagra. Siri can find you a local surgeon to give you breast implants. But apparently it can't find abortion clinics. The evidence seems pretty damning. If you ask Siri for an abortion clinic in New York City, it will tell you "Sorry, I couldn't find any abortion clinics." A simple Google web searchwhich Siri itself uses to find resultsgives you seven to start with, some within walking distance of where I'm located. If you ask the same question in the city of Washington... |

Like my wife and I, we ordered our iphones at the AT&T store, asked all the right questions (we thought), and left with the understanding that our purchase would be back ordered. If you knew the ancient state of our current cell phones, you'd understand why that was a perfectly understandable representation by the AT&T sales person. But . . . as furious AT&T online discussion groups blast AT&T, had we not pre-ordered the iphone 4s, we could have walked into any of their stores... |
